How to Easily Make $2,000 in Time for Christmas + Spring Clean Your Finances

How to Easily Make $2,000 in Time for Christmas

You might not want to think about Christmas/the holiday season/school holidays etc but it will arrive in a few months whether you are ready or not. In our house, everything shuts down for a few weeks including daycare, school and work plus there is so much on it tends to be one of the most expensive times of the year.

Quickly followed by birthday season and back to school for us (4 of the 5 kids are between mid-Jan and mid-Feb!)

If you start planning now, you can easily have $2,000 in time for Christmas. Use the tips to make extra money, save it and find some ways to make Christmas more affordable.

Get A $125 Bonus

Open a new account with ING and kickstart your Christmas savings. ING has their $125 Orange Everyday sign-up offer on, right now. They share different rewards at different times but the $25 is so good.

If you are a new customer of ING you can get $125 for opening an everyday account with them. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Open an everyday account and put the promo code CNW116 in the promo box (you must use the code to get the $125 bonus) and complete all the steps below in the first month.
  2. Deposit $1,000 into the account such as your income or Centrelink payments
  3. Make 5 settled transactions
  4. Open a Savings Maximiser (current interest rate is 5.5%)
  5. Make a deposit of any amount into the Savings Maximiser

Then you get your $125 the following month when the promotion is running. Promotion periods vary. The current promotion runs until 30 September 2024.

Spring Clean Your Finances

Spring is here! The weather will start warming up and it is a great time to review your finances, check on your budget, your goals and sort the house out a bit.

Do a financial review. If you haven't recently compared the prices of all your bills such as insurance, electricity and so on, now is a great time to do it. Get some tips on how to do it and see one I did previously. Plus make sure you check all your subscriptions. Sometimes people sign up and forget but the money keeps being taken from the account. Cancel what you don't need!

Check your net worth. Checking your net worth along with your cash flow is a great way to see how your financial goals are going. If you want to retire early or have other big financial goals, this is an important thing to do regularly.

Check your interest and investments. Create a financial plan or get professional advice to do that. Review it to ensure it matches your goals. Get a high-interest savings account if you don't already and review your banking to ensure you aren't paying unnecessary fees. Up bank is fee-free and gives you $14 when you sign up.

WeMoney is another option to track your money, set and achieve goals etc.

Get discounts. Check out these tips to get discounts on everything and use them.

Review goals. Financial goals aren't the only ones to check. Review your goals, what you are doing to achieve them, and the habits you are changing and see if the goals still match your life. Check out how to set and achieve goals for some ideas.

Budget. Create a budget and learn to stick to it if you don't already have one. Also consider regular meetings to check in, we call them abundance meetings as it feels better than budget meetings.

Pick A Savings Challenge

There are a few months left in the year, what do you want to achieve or how much do you want to have saved? Here are 9 savings challenges you can start right now.

Our Meal Plan/Grocery Tips

We've been fortunate with fishing recently so smoked salam salad, battered flathead and a fish curry are happening this week. Along with a tofu stirfry, tacos and lasagne as that's my kids favourite. You can find tips to reduce the cost of groceries here.

Normally, we rotate meal kits, using the different discounts which you can get here.

What I Am Reading

I always look for ways to improve life, money, relationships, everything so Optimal: How to Sustain Excellence Every Day was a great match for that.

Optimal includes practical methods for applying the principles of emotional intelligence to enter an optimal state of high performance, offering a roadmap to being at your best, every day.

For 2024, I have a list of books I am reading, some of which I have read before but know I can learn more from as I read them during times of stress.

The list is split into finance and business, health, self-help, new age/spiritual, parenting and relationships since these are the areas of my life I am always striving to improve.

I share what I am reading on my Instagram account and would love to hear what you are reading, what you recommend and why.
